Legacy Artist Laurie Beebe Lewis spent seven years with The Mamas & The Papas from 1986-1993 touring the world with original members John Phillips and Denny Doherty along with sun shine pop Singer Spanky McFarlane.
As a young fledgling musician, Laurie frequently toured with Dick Wagner & The Frost, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper and Ted Neugent in the early 1970's with her band “Pitche Blende”. Laurie moved to Chicago engaging in live performances with Big Band leader Les Elgart, B.B King, as a featured guest vocalist with The Spinners and joined Chicago based group “The Buckinghams” in 1983 as vocalist and backing keyboards. They were featured on the 1985 'Happy Together Tour' with The Turtles, The Grassroots and Gary Lewis & the Playboys. Laurie moved to San Diego, CA. in 1986 and joined the San Diego based group “The Monroes, recorded with Gary Puckett on his first debut album since the 70’s and then became a member of “The Mamas and the Papas” in 1986 (replacing daughter Mackenzie Phillips) and toured with them both nationally and internationally with original Papas John Phillips & Denny Doherty along with Spanky McFarlane. Most recently Laurie sang with and inducted Merrilee Rush into the “California Music Hall of Fame”. Her current show “Laurie Beebe Lewis & The Electric Underground” is an exhilarating concert production with music, lights and sounds with a tribute to The Mamas & the Papas and also the music of the most influential decades of our time, the 1960’s!
Presently Laurie takes her experiences, stories and THE MUSIC OF THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS and “Songs from Laurel Canyon” on stage! It’s a “tribute with a twist” as she shares a new perspective of her years with the group along with pristine vocals and iconic vocal arrangements previously sung by the 1960’s fab vocal quartet that changed folk rock music forever!
The “Mamas & Papas Experience” frontline vocalists are Laurie Beebe Lewis, Bob Wade (acoustic guitar), Andy Tirpak (guitarist) and Lori Wilson with keyboardist Michael Grossman, Cat Zeman on Drums and Don Anderson on bass. Together they form “The Electric Underground”; an exhilarating concert production with music, pictorial memorabilia, psychedelic lights and sounds! This spirited 7 piece band of top notch musicians performs with a powerful front line of pristine vocals and a line up of masterful artists. Performing songs from the iconic music of The Mamas & The Papas who were deeply intertwined with Laurel Canyon, a Los Angeles neighborhood that became a hub for the counterculture and music scene of the 1960s. The Mamas & Papas Experienve masterfully connects the music and friendships the group had during their brief but successful career.
